Short post today, my dears, because we’ve had some longer ones lately and sometimes it really is nice to take a bit of a break. To relax in something comfortable and casual .. without compromising in the style department.
I think I’ve said before that I never stop shopping; it’s the reason my inventory is completely nuts but it’s also the reason I’m able to come up with some of the outfits I do. I don’t limit myself to big events or specific genres but I definitely keep my eyes on them as much as anything else. Fashion is always evolving, in SL as much as in RL, and it’s been pure pleasure to see it happen from one month to the next in here.
Blogging can be a long and time-consuming process.
Not every time, of course; sometimes we’re just lucky and a concept crystallizes quickly; sometimes a picture lines up just right on the first try and our computer cooperates long enough to process the shadows we like, the colours we want, within moments of bumping ourselves up to ultra graphics and the realm of maximum avatar and object detail. Not always, but when it happens it’s nice.
At one point or another, though, I find myself becoming thoughtful; wondering why things are the way they are, both in my styling and sometimes on a much broader scale. This almost always happens at one of the ‘fine tuning’ stages of blogging – either editing prims or camming around my avatar to get that minute change of angle that’s the difference between a great shot and one I’m going to want to take again. Usually, though, it’s when I’m in Photoshop adjusting my picture, layer by layer, a few pixels at a time because really, really, I just love what I’m doing that much. And I’m grateful to be able to do it.
In getting ready for the November round of We <3 Role-Play (We <3 RP), this was the very first item brought to my attention and I have to say, I’m glad it was the first. This bath tub from Noble Creations ( [NC] ) is just stunning in regular SL windlight (check the raw shot below) and I knew immediately that I had to use it in some way. Somehow. There’s a definite old world vibe here, only enhanced by the sexy Spartan helm, with red or black plume, and pauldrons also available this round from the same awesome creator.
The trick, as always, was capturing this feeling of opulence with just a hint of danger. I asked my man Lucky for a favour. Ahem.
After this point, the post isn’t completely safe for work. Bookmark for later if you’ve gotta. Heck, IM me for a style card or just to say “hey” and I’ll give you all the details! After this point, there’s a bit of skin but nothing graphic; just your good buddy Portia looking out for you in a potentially-G-rated setting. <3
In this short (and very quick) series of posts, I am excited to show you some of my favourite Halloween costume ideas that may be a little bit different from the creepy, kooky, sexy, and scary costumes we’ve all come to know and love. Many of these outfits are mix and match, which I love to do, and all of them were assembled with a collection of old and new gear.
Don’t know what to wear for Halloween, 2015?
Read on! You might already have everything you need in your inventory!
I hope everyone’s weekend is going well! Mine has been a bit nuts, but that’s not exactly news anymore, is it? I’ve snuck online in the ‘wea smalls’ to take these pictures, though, because I’ve had this idea for a post rattling around in my brain for about a week and it’s time to get it out, already!
This is becoming a thing I love to do more and more with fashion, due in large part to my love of fantasy and science fiction but also because I just love the look of mixing couture pieces with my role play gear. It’s what I love most about Second Life, really; we can do almost anything we want here, right? So why not play around with the things we love and challenge the concept that there is some bizarre line between ‘fantasy’ and ‘reality’ here. Second Life is a virtual world which, to me, means that it’s all fantasy!
What a crazy month, right? It’s been “GOGOGO!!” over here and we’re just hitting the halfway mark for October. Life’s been great, though, and I am so pleased to be able to share my first co-written post with my man, my baby; my sometimes-too-wonderful-for-words Lucky! :D
Since we’re still new to this whole interviewing-one-another deal, the questions might not be 100% perfect but the love, and the banter, is real. Lucky and I have always enjoyed shopping and styling together and if you take a look around Mask and Mien, you’ll see that he’s really started to get into blogging as well. And I couldn’t be prouder. <3
So what we’ve done here has been great fun already. We’ve styled together and each taken our own pictures. We’ve written questions for one another and then answered the questions put to us. Style credits, as always, are at the bottom so let’s get to it, yeah?
Portia: How excited are you to be doing this post right now?
Lucky: I’m very excited to finally be doing a post together. I had intended to do something like this sooner but finding the time to actually do it was tricky. Originally I was going to bug you about doing it for the October TMDpost but things came up and made that not a very easy option. I knew we would get around to it eventually. Even doing this one wasn’t planned. It just started from a jacket. Funny how things work out sometimes. Continue reading →
Oh wow, so when did it start being October?! Is anyone else having this feeling of days just ‘whoosh’ing past like so many autumn leaves rustling across the sidewalk? If so, you’ll be happy to realize that you are that much closer to the newest cycle of We <3 Role-Play (We <3 RP). Yes, October ‘We <3’ opens TOMORROW afternoon and I am so so SO excited to be sending my first official preview post to you tonight. Yes, tonight! Huzzah!
I know, I know, this isn’t a huge surprise but in order to understand this post in its fullest, fullest context, I’d like to say as well that I tend to at least -visit- role play (RP) shopping events as often as I hear about them. Even when I’m not currently involved in one RP sim or another. Part of it is about staying current, keeping an eye on trends and filling in slight (very slight) gaps in my inventory. Any event can have great hair and accessories, poses, makeup, skins .. many things! So it’s always worth checking, right?
The point of this story, though, is that I noticed that The Secret Affair had -just- opened again and that I was looking forward to it. Past rounds have been great so it stood to reason that this one would be as well.
Sometimes, I swear, half the fun of styling fantasy clothing is going just a little bit over the top with jewellery (which you know I love) and stepping just far enough outside of our comfort zones to do something that is both totally like and unlike ourselves. This is the fun part of Mask and Mien and a big part of what the blog theme means to me. Everything here, in one way or another, represents a large part of my loves, likes, wants, and needs. Why buy a thing if you don’t like it, right?
The point, and I promise I’m getting to one, is that fantasy allows us to play. To imagine and exercise some creativity in our Second Lives! Of course this goes double for photography. :D
