Truth and Longing

Writer’s block: DEMOLISHED!

Well, mostly.

If you’re just tuning in now, you might have missed my newest blogger challenge! Yes, I was having a hard time putting words to (metaphorical) paper and I’ve noticed that the longer you put writing to one side, the harder it is to start up again.  Hence the challenge to just post something, already!

Feeling similarly stoppered up? Give it a try!

Raw Truth 600( The Truth.)

I hope you’ve heard by now that our beloved Sea Hole is closing. Like me, you might have wondered why a star brand at Collabor88 was missing, only to sigh, nod sadly, and sulk over the news for days. Whether you made it to the mainstore right away or not, whether you bought half the store in one fell swoop (like me) or resolved to get a few things, only to find you absolutely NEEDED the entire store afterwards (also like me), it is my sincere hope that you have done everything in your power to send this incredible designer out with a bang (and all of your L$). Drinkenstein Sorbet, you will be missed! Continue reading

“Olive Shine!”

Do you know the thing I love (olive) most about shine?

Sure, I’ve covered the brand before; Cecilia and I are friends; the clothes are fantastic and fun to wear but the more I think about it, I’m realizing that so many of my favourite outfits of this year have at least one piece of shine in them.  What I’m noticing now (and yes, I know I’ve been wearing these clothes for months) is how well these pieces work with my existing wardrobe but they do it in such a way that everything feels new.

Olive You L 600 ( Standing in front of shine’s NEW mainstore! )

This outfit, for example, came together when I decided to showcase shine‘s new slim mesh jacket; since it’s so close-fitting I wanted to work with system pants over mesh and since it’s on the dressy side (hello, there’s a brooch attached to it!) it needed to have some sort of flair as well. Breathe Me

Today’s post begins with a lamp.  A lovely lamp from {what next} that I have in my living room (the one that never needs tidying or vacuuming and I never stub my toe on the coffee table). I’ve been wearing this coldLogic sweater a lot lately as well, and this hair from Exile that never seems to work with any outfit I want to blog. You have no idea how much I’ve wanted to photograph these two things; it’s been driving me crazy for weeks!

Breathe Me Story

So I’m realxing, considering what I should do next, and I was struck again by how pretty and simple this lamp is. I like simple things. I like clean lines and soft colours. I love textures that look snuggly and warm, especially when I’m feeling a little down (which I am). The lamp reminds me of all these things and since I’m already dressed in clothes I love, I sneak up to my platform for an experiment! Continue reading

Whodunit?

By Portia Pexington, Something New  December 13th, 2012  03:46 AM

SECOND LIFE – In a shocking turn of events early this morning, a woman was found on her building platform in a strange array of clothing. Preferring only to be known as ‘Ms Body,’ this female was found in patterned leather pants, yellow booties, and a purple shirt. When questioned, the witness asserted the following:

“I have no idea how this came together – it just sort of happened.”

Several witnesses have been questioned but two key figures, Col. Mustard and Prof. Plum, remain at large.

“It’s horrifying,” says Miss Scarlet, a well-known fashion icon and advocate of glam style. “Whoever is responsible for this must answer to the authorities!” Another witness, Mrs. Peacock, asks the perpetrator(s) to come forward as soon as possible, saying only that ” (it is) … clearly some sort of mistake.” Continue reading

Falling

I’m usually pretty happy. Whether through conscious effort or genuine gladness, this is the mood I choose to have and the face I choose to show the world. Always a kind word for someone, often with a quip or a compliment (or both, hah!), it’s been my experience that life is generally easier if you face it with a smile. Some days it’s as easy as breathing. Others, not so much.

Still, I try.

This post has been brewing a while, though, and is the culmination of a few things, really. Weeks of grief on top of months of stress and sadness; my anxieties and the neverending fight to BE the person I want to be. The seasonal change (and don’t pretend it doesn’t affect you too – we’re all human), juggling funds, and failure in more than a few areas. Depression. Blah. We’ve all been here in varying degrees and we deal with it in a variety of ways.

Of all the dresses ..

.. in all the shops in all of the SL events right now .. the CadyLady and I bought the EXACT SAME ONE. At Cinema.

Crazy, right? But really .. would you have been able to resist the Volstead ‘Liason’ in honey? This lacy, silky, sheer chemise (if you aren’t wearing the glitch layers) left me speechless the second I tried it on. I’m still having trouble drumming up the words to describe how much I love this piece. Just .. go to Cinema and pick up the demo so you can throw me a line, here.

Okay?

Thanks.

Coming Soon to a Cinema Near You!

Hiiiii everyone!

You may not be able to see me inside the GINORMOUS cinema but if you look verrrrry closely there’s a little yellow and blue person standing by the counter. Squint .. squint .. see me? HI!

You’re probably already aware that the Hottie Cooterati Experience event begins (OMG) LATER ON TODAY but if you haven’t bought your tickets yet, I’m going to tempt you with a couple of fun things I’ve found so far and probably rave way too much about an event which is very close to my heart.

Who doesn’t love going to the movies? Continue reading

Confessions of a Former Band Geek

Music is my solace. Harmony, my heart. Certain chord progressions make me weak, or enraged, or giddy, or .. anything, really, because at a very basic level, music is feeling. It sinks into you, sometimes, and becomes part of who you are and how you see the world.

What I’m trying to say here, I suppose, is that there are some songs that you never forget or, specifically, that I will never forget. When other girls were listening to Red Hot Chili Peppers and Destiny’s Child, I’m slightly embarassed to admit that I spent my high school years obsessing over Dmitri Shostakovich’s fourth ballet suite and, of course, I knew every note in the Phantom of the Opera. One of my favourite CDs of all time, though, was Colm Wilkinson’s Stage Heroes, and the first track on THAT was his version of ‘I, Don Quixote.’

Listen to it sometime – you won’t regret it.

Now. The point of this confession is to provide a bit of context when I say that .. I am absolutely in LOVE with Chop Zuey‘s new Don Quixote Collection!

(Phew, that was a lot of text. Bring on the pictures!) Continue reading
