Thursday?!

HG: Thursday! It can’t be! It’s too gruesome!

PV: What’s so gruesome about Thursday?

HG: Nothing, except I can never remember when it’s coming up.

AAAHHHH!!!  Thursday already and nearly a week into Cinema! Can you believe it?! I had plans, so many plans, so many outfits lined up and ready to go but life just kind of takes over sometimes and it’s all we can do to keep up. But boy, I have a treat for you now – cross my heart and kiss my elbow!

So yes, I can never decide of Breakfast at Tiffany’s is my favourite movie of all time but when I have the “mean reds” there’s nothing else for me to do but pop this DVD on, close my eyes, and just listen to Audrey Hepburn’s voice for a couple of hours. I could do it right now except it’s Thursday (!!) and I have other things to do this afternoon, blah! Continue reading

Portia’s Closet ~ Day 1

Okay, first of all, there’s no way I’m doing this every day but it HAS come to my attention that, as I spend so much time putting outfits together I could probably blog more of them. The solution? This category right here; I’m going to try to avoid writing quite as much as I do normally (we’ll see how THAT goes) in order to maintain a balance between life, work, fun, and THIS (as blogging is a little bit of all that, if you ask me). See how great I am at keeping things short and sweet?

What greater gift than the love of a cat?

I’m having a hard time finding words today. Handy, isn’t it, that I have a few paragraphs to paste at you instead?

“One of our grid’s dearest and most talented designers, Gospel Voom, has recently had a heartbreaking incident happen in his life. His beloved cat, Archibald, was hit by a car last Saturday night. Miraculously, Archibald was able to make it home and is currently being treated for his injuries which include massive head and facial injuries. The surgeries and veterinary costs associated have already been astronomical and will continue to rise.

Those of us who have owned a pet, can understand what Gos must be going through. On top of the emotional distress, there is the large question as to how to ensure Arch will receive the necessary care. Truth District and several talented friends from across the grid have come together in support with volunteering an item(s) to help pay for the vet expenses. I am humbly asking if you would consider donating an item in support of Gos and Arch. It need not be a brand new item, it can be a recolor, it can be at 50% donation or even less. At this point, anything is helpful as the cost of Arch’s care will easily be in the 5 figures.”

The event is named “Archie Appeal” and is taking place in the Truth District from now until September 2nd. Please visit early and often to show your support for a content creator who is often on the front lines when other people need help. Let’s do the same for him, all right? Continue reading

~ Tribute ~

This is not the greatest look in the world ~ this is just a tribute.

Couldn’t pull out the greatest look in the world, ~naw~, this is a tribute!

To my darling Holly Golightly, whose dreams of breakfast at Tiffany’s closely mirror my own love affair with Second Life:

Holly Golightly: You know those days when you get the mean reds?
Paul Varjak: The mean reds, you mean like the blues?
Holly Golightly: No. The blues are because you’re getting fat and maybe it’s been raining too long, you’re just sad that’s all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you’re afraid and you don’t know what you’re afraid of. Do you ever get that feeling?
Paul Varjak: Sure.
Holly Golightly: Well, when I get it the only thing that does any good is to jump in a cab and go to Tiffany’s. Calms me down right away. The quietness and the proud look of it; nothing very bad could happen to you there. If I could find a real-life place that’d make me feel like Tiffany’s, then – then I’d buy some furniture and give the cat a name!

Week 21 WoC ~ Lemon Chiffon!

WOOHOO!!

I have never, EVER, been so excited to write a blog challenge entry as I am right here, right now. Forget that it’s my birthday week (*whispers* May 24th, I like smelly things and shiny things), forget that I practically live in the colour yellow, but this week is LEMON and I couldn’t be happier. I cook and bake in RL (a lot) and lemon is probably one of my top five favourite ingredients to use. I drink my water with lemon. G&T? Needs a bit of lemon. Favourite dessert? You guessed it, lemon pie.

Lemon is bright and beautiful but sometimes it needs a touch of sweetness, a bit of lightness, and that’s where the chiffon comes in. It’s a perfect blend of flavours and, in this case, a truly beautiful colour.

Culture Shock 2012 – SL Designers Care! (Pt. 3)

Imagine if this had all gone into one post? Yikes!

I’ve spent a great deal of time on the MSF Canada website this weekend and I can’t stress enough how incredible this organization is. Please run over and have a peek as well – familiarize yourself with what they do and how they do it. I’m trying to keep this post as small as possible (HA!) so after this one last quote from the website (I promise) .. learning more is up to you.

For more 40 years, we have been providing medical help to people caught in many kinds of catastrophes, including armed conflicts, disasters such as floods and earthquakes, epidemics of disease and malnutrition crises. All these situations call for rapid response with specialized medical and logistical help. We are renowned for our quick response and efficient, effective work in the toughest emergencies. Beyond the drama of the acute crisis, we also intervene in times that call for a less urgent type of action, for instance, in chronic refugees situations, areas of chronic instability, and in periods following a conflict or disaster. The action we take comes in multiple forms:

  • Emergency public healthcare, including medicine and surgery
  • Mass vaccination campaigns
  • Water and sanitation systems
  • Therapeutic and supplementary nutrition
  • Distribution of drugs and supplies
  • Training and health education
  • Organization or rehabilitation of health structures
  • Medical assistance within existing health structures
