Hair Fair 2016 Pre-Show!

Hello, everyone, and welcome to Mask and Mien’s official coverage of Hair Fair 2016!

I’m Portia Pexington, coming to you live from the Hair Fair’s ‘Backlot East‘ location, just one of four full shopping sims and two camming sims dedicated to this landmark event!

It’s hard to live in Second Life and not be aware of Hair Fair – it’s one of the core events on the grid and, as always, a percentage of the ‘Fair’s proceeds are donated to Wigs For Kids, an important and established charitable organization dedicated to providing children suffering from hair loss with the tools they need to maintain their self-image and esteem. Although most of us approach Hair Fair as a shopping event, and rightly so, it’s important to remember that while so many of us indulge in our Second Life hair addiction there are so many people in Real Life that go without. If you’re able to donate to this cause, like so many content creators who are so generous with their time and profits, I urge you to do it. Remember that the greatest power we can claim in Second Life is the power to do good things for others.❤

Hair Fair First

With only a few hours before Hair Fair 2016’s official opening, we at Mask and Mien have prepared a special report to help you, our readers, navigate this massive event with minimal fuss. So without further ado, I’m thrilled to share our first ever…

Enjoying a Bit of Quiet Time

Before I say anything else tonight, I really want to thank everyone who read my last post ‘Just Breathe …. Discussing Bloggers, Designers, and Sponsorship‘ a few days ago; whether you liked the post or even took a moment to sit back and read it, your support has meant so much to me during a time when I was questioning a great deal about myself and my motivations for being here. In particular, though, I want to extend a special thanks to Harper Ganesvoort, Ever Amarinthine, Amity Sorbet, Kat Feldragonne, Lucky Spiritor, Colleen Criss, and Monica Querrien for taking the time to leave such heartfelt and insightful comments after the post (and I’m going to finish responding to all of them as soon as this post is out. <3). On facebook, too, I felt the love from three of my favourite women breathing: Ponchituti Boucher, Occasus Jayaram, and Jourdy Moretti. Thank you, all of you. Just .. thank you. If there’s ever a thing I can do for any of you, and I do mean ever, I hope you’ll just say the word.

Maybe it’s no surprise by now that I am excited, even energized, to jump into the first posts of the month with especial enthusiasm and I think most of us can understand how much easier it is to start new projects when our energy is running high. I’m feeling great and I hope you are as well, just as I hope you’re enjoying (or plan to enjoy) your time out in the summer sunshine! For me, well, I’m an indoors kinda gal; maybe that’s why I enjoy bringing nature into my photographs as much as I do. Pictures like the one above practically take themselves these days, but I love it.

There are a few things to note in particular about this shot and to keep things simple I’m going to run through them in an orderly fashion so no one gets too confused…. Continue reading

Happy Canada Day!

Bonne fête du Canada!

Canada Day

Happy Birthday Canada! It’s the first year I know that I’ve celebrated it thanks to my lovely Portia. I was trying to cook some good food for us to each but she insisted on bombing me with water balloons. Needless to say we are eating late this evening. It’s very cool that both Canada and the US celebrate similar but separate holidays within just a few days of one another. I had absolutely no idea the holiday existed. That’s some Americanism for you ain’t it. Continue reading

Not really a styling post today, more of a “I really had fun working on this picture” type of post. It’s showing a very different side of myself and Portia.

I had the idea for the above shot for the last week. It started out in a random conversation Portia and I had one night. “Back scratches with shadows and a bit of lighting,” is what I believe I said to her. There was finally some free time to get it shot last night. (Yay!) While it is suggestive and certainly implies certain things, I see it as a tasteful nude shot. Continue reading

Let Me Win

Summer is almost here! Who else is excited?! Let’s geek out in our fancy new swimwear, play some games, and have a blast!

Let Me Win

“Babe. You’re suppose to let me win!” Ok, ok, I have to be honest, Portia would not say that. She’s actually quite good at the games we do play together. If anything it’s me trying to keep up with her. At least when it comes to The Elder Scrolls Online. We decided to spend the night in last night and just relax. It started out that way at least. After hours of gaming and loads of food that is probably not great for us we ended up tangled in a pool float. Who would win, the “magic glowy spell slinging” mage Portia or the “light things on fire with burning arrows” hunter Lucky?! NOBODY KNOWS! Continue reading

For The Alliance

The Warcraft movie is almost here, and I as a WoW player am beyond excited. So much so that I managed to find a lovely “Jaina Proudmoore” to accompany me on this post.

For The Alliance

First off, FOR THE ALLIANCE. Alright now that I have that out of my system let’s get to the real deal. We❤ RP is getting ready to start it’s June round and the previews I’ve seen are absolutely stellar. It’s an event that has grown near and dear to my heart thanks to the lovely Portia. I had never attended nor paid attention to it, for that I’m sorry We <3, but now I get very excited each time a new one comes around. I’ve ventured in the world of RP recently so seeing all of the unique items and figuring out what and if I can use something in my roleplay scenarios is so much fun. Continue reading

<3 As You Wish <3

I realize that it’s been a pretty big day for blogging today and for those of you who have caught each of my posts in the last twenty for hours and NOT lost your marbles entirely – THANK YOU!

It’s been such a busy month (yes, I know I say this all the time but hey, I’m a busy girl!) and I STILL have one more post I want to get out today after this one. Your patience is greatly appreciated

Lord And Lady

So this post is going to be short and very sweet and, really, sandwiched between two pictures of my man Lucky and myself, how could it not be? Continue reading

A Life Indoors ~ Speaking Out About Going Outside

“Never give up on someone with a mental illness. When “I” is replaced by “We”, illness becomes wellness.”
Shannon L. Alder

Indoors 3072.png

Disclaimer: This is going to be a bit of a heavier post than I’m used to writing. For those of you uncomfortable with the idea of reading about anxiety and mental illness, I understand. Truly. It’s a difficult subject. You don’t need to read any more than this paragraph – credits are at the bottom.❤

I realized today just how long it’s been since the last time I wrote about anxiety. Years, really, and as much as I would like to say that it’s because I am completely out of the woods, that really isn’t the case. I’ve written about my condition prior to this (here and here) and hinted at it from time to time as well. I am not ashamed of my illness and I don’t believe anyone should ever worry that speaking out about who they are, as long as it does no harm, nor should they be judged or shunned for their personal life. If I don’t discuss mental disorder often, it’s because my anxiety has become just another fact of life. I am a Canadian woman. I have green eyes and a nice smile. I live with chronic anxiety, agoraphobia, and hypersensitivity.

Not a single one of these traits defines who I am but they do contribute to the sum of their parts. I don’t rail against my agoraphobia anymore, just like I don’t hate the fact that my hair is too straight to curl – I work with it. I do the best I can with what I have and believe me, the work never ends. It’s hard to be happy on a consistent basis but I don’t think I’m alone in that either. Most people have a hard time being happy. Everybody struggles with something.

Let me tell you about my struggles, though. Maybe it will help with yours. Continue reading

Karishma, Carisma, and an Iron Throne ~ Arcade Preview Post!

Iron Throne 2048

Iron Throne 2048.png

There are so many things I wanted to say about this picture, so many beautiful pieces I wanted to draw to your attention. The stunning revelation that is -AZUL-‘s new dedication to offering Omega layer options for their beautiful gowns. The gorgeous new jewellery set we’ll be seeing at the Arcade so very, very soon. An incredibly detailed Iron Throne prop from DRD that comes in, fully animated, at 25 li (it sounds like a lot, sure, but just LOOK! Does that even look like an SL background?) Continue reading
